I must have already told you about the time when Ramet Gorges in the Land of the Moți in Transylvania, Romania became my daily “work studio”. This image is from those times, when I was struck by the colours of autumn which, like an alchemist, turned the green slopes of the mountain to gold.
I have always been a keen observer of nature colours and I had plenty of colourful events to witness during the time spent in Japan, where the life of ultramodern society is shaped and made to resonate by the nature’s basic colours. The spectacle of nature, especially in spring and autumn, is the source of the genuine emotion that balances the apparent rigid and tough societal modernity.
These thoughts were swirling in my head in a completely different part of the world where I found that nature was just as majestic!
Its beauty hit me so hard that I felt the sharing it to the world was the right thing to do. My trekking path was small and crowded and the gorges were really narrow. The theory of landscape photography says that in order to create depth in such an image is useful to place something at the forefront (object, stone, man, etc.), close to the camera, something that looks quite a bit larger, but small enough so that the landscape itself to remain majestic in the background.
The second theory in landscape photography says that it is good to always use, when available, natural reflections in water.
So, I was wandering around looking for something to put in front of the colorful mountain. There
were some houses with a courtyard that could have hit the brief. But it would have been quite a common view. At one point, I saw a puddle in the middle of the path. Moving around it, I noticed that from certain angles, you could see in the pond the reflection of the colorful forest from the slopes. This created a very intense contrast between the vivid colors “trapped” in the water mirror and the dark mud around it. .
And in this way, the ephemeral reflective patch became the surprising main element of geometric and chromatic balance in this beautiful autumn image.
