This image as well was made while being in Romania, trying to photograph what I like but adapting to the requirements of commercial photography.
This picture was taken in a morning, near the Trăscău Mountains in Transylvania. It’s part of a series dedicated to adventure in nature.
One of the methods of “adapting” to commercial criteria is specializing in editing or post

processing of the image, using various software tricks. That’s why one of the versions of this picture taken in the morning is actually representing an evening at sunset. I’ve changed the sky and the general atmosphere of the image, and in this way, I’ve managed to twist its concept. At the same time, this approach offered an alternative to the potential users.
At the time I took this picture, the various softwares’ level of editing complexity was obviously far from what can be done today.. Back then, this change required quite a lot of work and a detailed knowledge of working method to make the change appears natural.
Today, the same thing can be done in two mouse clicks, almost in a blink of an eye.
In fact, this is the reason I presented the image.
This everchanging development of image creation technology (cameras, softwares, lighting sources, computers, “www world” etc.) forces photographers to constantly adapt. What at some point seemed out of the ordinary and was created almost exclusively by a method that involved a “last minute” technique, in a few years, or even months, it becomes something trivial that can be done by anyone with or without thorough knowledge in the field.
Because of these reasons, “brilliant” works of art at some point are rendered obsolete by technological development.
In this situation, the photographer-artist has to create something to break this chrono-technological barrier. One is forced to use technologies at some point in time and to create images that persist even after the technologies become obsolete. To achieve this, the artist needs to reach a level where he can express his ideas using these technical tools. But the technical means don’t have to take the main stage in the creative process. They should always submit to the photograph’s idea. This is not easy to do but trying to follow this path is extremely exciting and can be the element of overcoming this technological-temporal development barrier.
In a way, this is also the reason why I write these weekly stories for some of my photos. To show that actually creating an image involves other elements, which might be surprising to some of us, apart from technology. The technology and working techniques are extensively presented by many, while the additional conceptual processes of image creation are somewhat left behind.
What I mentioned above can be expressed differently: the photographer is forced to continuously adapt.
At a more advanced stage, this adaptation can become a source of inspiration …. meaning that the “adaptability drives inspiration” …
